Jamaica, VA: During this time of year when we think of family and friends the staff at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway would like to wish the members of our racing family, the Fans and Racers alike, a Merry Christmas and hope you and your family have a blessed New Year. The Speedway office will close Thursday December 22nd and reopen Monday January 2nd in observance of Christmas and the New Year.
After the first day of winter each day gets a little longer and before you know it will be time to crank up the engines and get back to racing. Florida speedweeks will be here before you know it and the green drops on the 2012 racing season. Don’t forget to start planning for the events you will attend during the 2012 season.
One event that should definitely be on your list is the third annual Commonwealth 100 to be held April 13th & 14th, 2012.
The third annual Commonwealth 100 will have one small change as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will now sanction the event.
Contrary to rumors the purse for the Commonwealth 100 will remain the same and continue to pay $25,000 to the winner of the two-day event, which will offer a cash purse totaling over $125,000. The Commonwealth 100 will pay $2,000 to start, and a 30-lap Non-Qualifiers’ Race will boast a $3,000 first-place award from a purse of nearly $16,000.
Time trials and heat races will be run on Fri., April 13th, with B-mains, non-qualifiers races and the Commonwealth 100 on Sat., April 14th. A rain date of Sun., April 15th, has been established for the event.
Track owner Bill Sawyer has held the line on pricing for the Commonwealth 100 keeping the two-day advance ticket at only $30 for the mega event. Senior and military two-day advance tickets will remain $27 with two-day student (7 – 17) advance tickets remaining at $15. For more information on ticket pricing visit the speedway’s website.
There are two ways to purchase tickets: Visit www.vamotorspeedway.com to download the advance ticket order form and send it in with a money order or cashiers check. No personal checks will be accepted. Or fans wanting to purchase tickets using a credit card can call the speedway at 804-758-1867 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am and 4pm. Mastercard, Visa and Discover cards accepted. All seats are general admission.
Drivers can save too by entering early! The early entry fee of $150 not only saves you $50 off the regular $200 price but also includes the drivers $50 two-day pit pass making the driver’s savings a total of $100. Driver pre-entry deadline is April 1st 2012.
Fans can also save money by camping on the speedway grounds. There will be no charge to camp (no hookups) in designated areas. The speedway is also working with several campgrounds in the area to offer full service camping at a reduced cost.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA affiliate track, is a ½ mile dirt oval track and located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA.
