I've always wondered in the back of my head why the SLM's only race 20 laps. Personally, the Late Models are my favorite class and I would love to see them go 25 laps. Just wondering. To me, they're just as good as the Big Blocks.

Because the Big Blocks are the "premier" class at DIS. They are paid more than Late Models. This is the way it has been for many years and not likely to change. When I worked at Georgetown, both classes were the top class and paid the same purse. That is why they rotated on a weekly basis.

While we were involved in Modified racing for yrs and I still enjoy a good Modified race the Super Lates @dis are the show! They race close, lot of position changes and the winner can be one of many hard chargers but they continue to be second class citizens @dis with limited purses. Oh yes, they had a special 30 lap race recently paying an additional $1000 to win. That was great for Ricky who won but the remainder of the field ran an additional 10 laps wearing more tires, fuel and 10 laps more chance of damage for the very same weekly purse. How is that fair? There's a lot of very good super lates and drivers in the area that are finding if difficult to run weekly when unless you win you don't get enough to pay the fuel & tire bill. If the DIS SL purse increased I believe there would more cars every week and DIS might even attract guys from across the bridge. If I were ranking the classes at DIS the Super Lates would be #1, followed by both crates classes and then the Big Blocks. But that's just my opinion! Stay cool everyone!
