MILLSBORO -- Charles "Dale" Lingo Jr., 83, of Millsboro died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009.
He was born June 19, 1925, in Millsboro. He was a son the late Charles D. Sr. and Hettie Hudson Lingo.
He was founder and owner of Lingo Marine in 1961, and the Lingo Bus Service.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II, and guarded P.O.W.s at a camp in Georgia. He was an alumni of Beacom College. Prior to founding Lingo Marine, he had worked as a Grain Inspector for the Federal Government.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He loved to race boats, and was also a fan of stock car racing. He was the biggest fan of his two grandsons who race cars. He was a good husband, a good father, and enjoyed his family and his business. He was an admired businessman throughout Sussex County, and will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Helen Morris and Dorothy Ellis.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine Cauffiel Lingo of Millsboro; two sons, Charles D. Lingo III and his wife, Faye Lynn of Millsboro and Donald C. Lingo, and his wife, Suzanne of Millsboro; a daughter, Geraldine "Jane" Parker, and her husband, Bradley of Millsboro; five grandchildren, Dale IV, Debbie, Pamela, Donald Jr. and Heidi; five great-grandchildren, Brooke, Colton, Donald III, George Jr. and Angela; and his beloved canine friend, Mia.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home at 211 S. Washington St. in Millsboro, where friends may call from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The Rev. Phyllis Walton will officiate. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Flowers are welcomed.
The family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1138 Parsons Road, Salisbury, Md. 21801.
