Last night, my family and I spent over $400 to attend the DMP banquet. After a long season, we were proud to see my son receive a top 5 points finish in his kart class. The flyer that was handed out at the races stated that it was "a celebration for all Friday night divisions and dmp kart divisions." As the night went on, it was clear that it was a celebration for all Friday night divisions and not dmp kart divisions. The original flyer that we received stated that there would be trophies and "contingencies to be announced" for 2nd through 5th places in each kart division and trophies and cash for 2nd through 5th place in each of the Friday night oval divisions. When the trophies were given to the karters there were no contingency prizes, or if there were we are all still waiting for them to be announced. It also stated that there would be a cash award for each division champion and I didn't see any of them walk away with an envelope. My son only received a trophy and yes we were very pleased with him and pleased with it. I feel that if there were no contingencies, DMP should not have put the words in black and white when they were promoting their $50 per person banquet. I figure that my family and I spent $2000+ this past season, between the cost of admission and the fee to race. This was above and beyond the $400+ we spent to attend the banquet. I am sure that we weren't the only ones. It was a slap in the face to watch the Friday night oval divisions walk away with their cash prizes, while the karters didn't even walk away with as much as a wheel or a bottle of tire prep. We enjoyed racing at the track this past summer and were quite pleased with the family atmosphere and gave the track rave reviews. This was very hard to swallow though, because it felt that the money we contributed to the track all season and the money paid for banquet tickets was not to benefit our karters. It seemed like it all benefited the friday night oval divisions. I feel that if you are going to promise something, you should make good on that promise. I am sure that I am probably not the only one that feels this way.
