Jamaica,VA (January 4, 2007) - The tentative 2007 schedule for Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway has been released and includes 26 weeks of Championship action starting with opening night March 24th and ending September 21st – 22nd with the 38th Annual Fall Classic. To see the entire 2007 schedule in its entirety visit the Speedway’s website at www.vamotorspeedway.com.
Returning during the 2007 season will be the very successful Victory Lap Late Model $25K Challenge Series for steel head late models. The four race series will offer a bonus program for multiple wins. The Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge will once again pay a $5,000 bonus to anyone winning two of the four events with it going to $15,000 if a driver wins three of four events. And finally, if a driver sweeps all four events that driver would pick up a cool $25,000 bonus. Track rules for the Victory Lap Late Model Division will apply.
“With the success of the Victory Lap Challenge over the last four years we felt it was imperative to bring back the Challenge Series and give our steel head late models four premier events during the 2007 season,” commented Track Owner Bill Sawyer.
Tentative dates for the Victory Lap Late Model $25K Challenge Series are April 28th, July 6th, August 4th and September 1st.
VMS will also hold five special events for the Super Late Models during the 2007 season. Tentatively scheduled are the 360 OTC World of Outlaws Late Model Series on April 14th and Friday July 20th, with the April 14th date to be taped for the Speed Channel, the Lucas Oil Dirt Car Series on June 23rd also in front of the Speed Channel cameras and the MACS Series and the USA 100 on August 18th. All four races will be $10,000 to win events. The fifth show will be an unsanctioned $5000 to win event that will be paired with the first ever visit of the Advance Auto Parts Super Dirt Series Big Block Modified Series on Thursday, May 3rd. Plans are being finalized to have several of NASCAR’s stars here and racing in both the Big Block and Super Late Model events.
The Speedway will once again host an AMA Grand National event this year a two-day event on July 13 - 14th. The Friday night portion of the two day program will feature a vintage and amateur race. The 2nd Annual Joe Weatherly Memorial will be the main attraction for the Saturday portion of the program. Also returning to Virginia Motor Speedway will be Emmett Hahn’s O’Reilly ASCS National 360 Tour this time for a two-day 360 Nationals event May 25 – 26th. The ASCS Mid-Atlantic 360 tour will visit for the first time on April 28th.
New for the 2007 season is the addition of the ASCS sanctioned New Generation Racing 305 Sprint Car Series that will compete in 11 championship point paying events during the season. Also new to 2007 are seven Friday night shows for our weekly competitors. The move to the Friday night racing, on the seven select shows, is in response to NASCAR’s nationally televised Saturday night events.
The Speedway will hold an open practice for all divisions on Saturday, March 17th from 9am till 5pm. All cars must be registered and inspected before allowed to practice. Competitors are encouraged to register before the open practice. Registrations are currently being accepted with the top twenty in each class having their number saved until February 1st when all numbers will become first come first served. Competitors can obtain a 2007 registration form by going to the tracks website or by calling the speedway Monday through Friday 10am through 3pm at (804) 758-1867.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA.
