I would like to thank DIS, t8j5, racechaser and everyone else that has worked to coordinate the event. Great idea. Not knowing all details when we completed forms we did include my father, Ed Adams just so he could be remembered. We will not be using the tickets mailed in his name. We realize now the event was planned for those still around. However, I would like to post a little about my Dad and then I am going to post a bunch of names that come to my mind that have also passed on. During this wk as we celebrate the Blast let's share notes about our past racing heroes. My Dad, Ed Adams worked for Mel Joseph when Mel was building Georgetown. My Dad did a lot of things in construction but grading was his specialty. He helped Melvin lay out and graded in the original surface at Georgetown. Over the yrs he maintained the track. He was Pres of the original Delmarva Racing Assoc. He owned cars including the #60, a '53 Studebaker which was a mate to George Harrison's X. 60 ran several nights a wk competing in NASCAR sportsman points, Georgetown, Flemington, and anywhere from NY to NC. Roy Tyner drove car @ Daytona. Alfred Parker, Joe Carey, Bobby Parker, Lope Headley, thingy Adams and others where always around working on the cars in Alfred's little garage. Wherever #60 went my Dad was there and he always made room in the stationwagon for me, my brother George and other kids in the family who wanted to tag along. George & I love racing and it is not surprising as we were raised by a Dad who ate and breathed racing. My Dad passed away at the time Georgetown was tied up in court over whether the new owners, Al & Bunnie, would be able to open. Each day when I visited my Dad in the hosp his first question was always any word on Georgetown and then what did the MD say? The speedway was in his ever thought right to the end. Thanks Dad for sharing your love of racing with George & I & others.

As I consider the Blast event let us not forget a lot of folks who helped write racing history in Delaware. I encourage others to post about these people and add more names. Melvin Joseph, Charlie Herbert, Howard Betts, Ralph Blakely, Johnnie Martin, Paul Walker, Johnny Roberts, Reds Kagle, Jackie McLaughlin, Earl Passwaters, Horace Williams, the Prettymans, Windy Bailey, William J. Cathell, the Maddox family, Ed Henry, the Tucker brothers, Larry Tucker, George Harrison, Joe Carey, Bobby Parker, J.R. Jones, and so many, many more. Please share memories!
