Obviously there is a reason i've been back on here after a two year (daddy) stint...... Inquiring minds want to know if the payouts I heard are correct.... I'll be waiting.

Thanks PeeWeeeeeeee....
When you go eat at a nice restaurant.... I mean a really good one.... their menus are very simple and only contain a few items.... However they make these dishes top notch. That is kinda how I feel about karting.... they try to make TOO MANY dishes(classes). Why not get rid of animal medium, sr stock, flathead 350, peewee, jr 1 rookie........ these are just filler classes...... and even after eliminating them you still give each driver/team the opportunity to compete in two classes with the same motor and not have to touch weight.
The problem with karting is there is a lack of participants. The more difficult the class structure is to understand the harder it is to get people into the sport. In reality there should only be about 5 or 6 classes..... Before you say "it would be hard to get people to come for just one class"..... With just that many classes you could broadcast the event or taped delay that would appeal to a broader audience...... What is the biggest complaint we have about Nascar? It's too d**n long. Would you want watch 18 classes run?? Either Live or on the Net it's just too long.
There are a few shops that fight over the same 25 karters in the area..... with a smaller class structure you can promote OUTSIDE of the sport.... Xbox doesn't only advertise to Xbox owners.... It advertises to everyone.... Why does karting only promote its sport within the sport??? For $5000 you can have a chance to win $1000 in karting as opposed to $40,000 to win $2000 in big cars... Our racing is better and closer.......
Charge $3-5 per race to watch online, make it to 1000 viewers and you can add $1000 to each class.... People in the sport will promote it for free just because they know the more viewers the more money!!!!
Think about it... if you treat this "series" as a 'business'..... Why would you model your business after all the other series "THAT DON"T EXIST ANYMORE!!!" When I started my landscape business I took two of the most successful people I know in business and really studied their business models and took the best from Mike Hubbard (a numbers guy) and Brian White (low overhead guy)..... applied to my small business. I doubt anyone would go find the guy that just went out of business and ask him to run your business just like his....

I should add.... I'm not trying to knock anyone... Just being out of karting for two years after being in it for 22yrs and traveling to more races than anyone in the area..... these are just observations from a pure "business/growth" point of view. thanks.

It's like anything else.... the more you dilute the amount of championships, the less prestigious.

I proposed to the club President back in 2010 that half the money at the end of the year be used for track improvements and putting on a huge $10,000 + to win show. When I did race, I didn't care as much about a huge banquet at the end of the year as much as the actual racing and surface. Heck, if the payout on one class was humongous, it would draw karters from all over the country. Look what they did in Kentucky (I think that's where the Insane One is held?)
Also proposed exposure on the radio, as far as having a Station do a remote from a kart race. Not many folks know about karting, unless they're a karter themselves.
But, it seems like Clubs are all too worried about who they're going to be in kahoots with as far as tire brands, and getting 40 sets of tires to hand out at the huge look at me banquet that the General Public couldn't care less about, when the tire companies make new types of tires in the offseason that make the much pined about freebie tires virtually useless the next year.
I don't have a dog in the fight anymore, haven't raced since 2010, but I do care about racing, in general. Both sides of my family have raced at Delmar for generations (Sapps and Duttons), and the way racing is headed with counts and such, someone needs to change things to keep it alive. In my opinion, the class structures need to go back to the way they were years ago before we as a Society became ones of entitlement. Little Jimmy or Suzy has problems winning? Let's create thirty five different classes they can compete in, and maybe they'll win one of em.
Yes, having multiple Jr classes sometimes doubles and triples entry fees, but some of the smaller budgeted teams can't run multiple classes the entire year. Make a class with restrictions on age of the chassis, such as they do with the Vintage Mods. That may bring some folks out that have their old 97 Trick hanging up in the barn.
Make a State Series a TRUE State series and involve ALL the dirt tracks in the state. Get rid of the throwout rule, that's just for Points Players, and the person that comes each and every week because they love to race, but runs for points, too... sometimes gets the short end of the stick points wise because of it.
Just my dumb opinion on stuff, and like I said, I have no dog in the fight anymore. But these days, you gotta think outside of the box if you want to grow anything.
