SCHEDULE ALTERED FOR BRIDGEPORT’S CHARLIE BRAY MEMORIAL RACE ON NOVEMBER 19 AND
20
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (November 3, 2011) - After hearing feedback from several race
teams, Bridgeport Speedway management has altered the schedule for the Charlie
Bray Memorial race on Saturday November 19 and 20. Instead of splitting the
qualifying and feature events over two days, the Big Block Modifieds will now
have heat races and a feature contest on Sunday, November 20th. With the Big
Block Modifieds moving to a Sunday only show on the big 5/8th mile, the quarter
mile Small Block Modified show on Saturday will be replaced by an open Modified
contest on the inner dirt oval. This annual season finale at the Gloucester
County complex in New Jersey honors the late Nazareth Speedway Promoter and
Bridgeport Speedway Official, who passed away suddenly on December, 8, 2008.
The racing weekend gets underway on Saturday, November 19 with qualifying for
the Super Late Models and Bridgeport Modifieds on the outer oval. A 25-lap main
event for the Super Late Models with $3000 awarded to the victor and the
previously postponed $2500 to win 25-lap Bridgeport Modified feature from the
Wingate Classic show will be staged. Plus, a complete show for open Modifieds on
the quarter mile with heat races and a 25-lap main event paying $1000 takes
place. An Allied Recycling Demolition Derby closes out the first day of the
Charlie Bray Memorial
On Sunday, November 20, the entire race program takes place on the big 5/8th
mile dirt track. Heat and consolation races for the Big Block Modifieds will
precede the $3000 to win 25-lap feature. After Saturday’s qualifying contests,
another 25-lap Bridgeport Modified feature will occur with a potential of $1200
going to the winner if more than 30 cars attempt to compete. The Proformance
Cuts Outlaw Stock cars will be in competition in the Fallen Friend Fifteen in
memory of Proformance Cuts owner Marty Kulesza who passed away suddenly on
October 25. The TSRS Sprint Cars and Vintage Stocks complete the program.
On Saturday November 19, the pit area opens at 10:00 a.m. with grandstand gates
unlocking at 11:00 a.m. Warm-ups get underway at noon with racing slated to
start shortly after hot laps.
On Sunday November 20, the pit and grandstand gates open at 10:00 a.m. A
pre-race pit party and driver re-draw is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. at the
pavilion behind the main grandstand. An extra treat is in store for fans as
Sunday’s meeting for drivers will be held at the grandstand pavilion. Warm-ups
hit the track at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday with racing starting afterwards.
A 2-day general admission pass may be purchased for $45 and a single day
grandstand ticket can be secured for $25. Kids 12 and under are admitted for
free to the grandstand. Plenty of giveaways are planned for this event as well.
A 2-day pit admission pass is available for $60 and a single day wristband to
the pits can be purchased for $40. No pit license is required for the Charlie
Bray Memorial event.
The rules for this race weekend have been simplified. Any legal 13 x 92 Modified
tire can be used for competition in the Big Block Modified, open Modified and
Bridgeport Modified divisions on this weekend. No weight rule will be in force
for Saturday’s open Modified event on the quarter mile and sail panels are
permitted.
For Sunday’s Big Block Modified race, any Big Diamond/Grandview legal 358 Small
Block or DIRT legal 358 Small Block must weigh a minimum of 2350 pounds to
compete in the Big Block Modified division. Legal 467 Big Block Motors and any
Big Small Block engines must weigh 2500.
Bridgeport Speedway provides a safe and secure family atmosphere, free parking,
giveaways and fan participation games. Billed ‘The Fastest Dirt Track in the
East’, Bridgeport Speedway is a banked 5/8th mile dirt oval, featuring a dirt
1/4 mile oval embedded in the center, and is located in Southern New Jersey --
just minutes from Pennsylvania and Delaware at exit 14 off of I-295.
