The ARDC Midgets are set for their annual invasion of Dixie this Friday when they travel south across the Mason Dixon line into North Carolina to Dixieland Speedway in Elizabeth City, NC.
The early August trip into Stock Car country has become a tradition in recent years as the drivers really enjoy showing the fans the Yankee style of open wheel wingless 3 wide racing.
The ARDC is coming off their Western Pennsylvania swing to Clinton County Raceway and Mercer Speedway Park. The Clinton County feature was stopped short due to a strict curfew and has been rescheduled for Labor Day weekend while Steve Buckwalter was able to score his seventh win of the season at Mercer in the Saturday event.
When ARDC was last seen at Dixieland, “Slick” Nick Wean was standing in victory lane. The Phillipsburg, NJ speedster defeated Pennsylvania’s Dusty Heistand and PJ Gargiulo. Frank Polimeda who went on to be the 2009 Club Champion finished fourth and Ryan Smith was fifth.
Of that group, only Ryan Smith of Kunkletown, PA has visited Victory Lane this year and he has done it at the shortest and longest speedways that ARDC visits. The quarter mile at Bridgeport, NJ and the famed half mile, Williams Grove Speedway.
Also looking to pickup his first win of the season is Drew Heistand of Wrightsville, PA. Heistand, who currently sits second in points had a fourth place finish Saturday night at Mercer.
The gates at Dixieland swing open at 5:00pm with qualifying slated to start at 7:00pm and racing at 8:00pm
