I have asked it 100 times. How can you justify counting the uncompleted lap when caution comes out, but going back a lap to determine line up? Then when they take green you caulk another lap up. Thats two laps stole from the driver and FANS. I have been to alot of tracks and never seen this occur. Are you just pushing the show so we can get home? I came there to see a race, all 25 or 20 laps of it. I can't believe $25 to get in the pits, no field, no payback and NO VICTORY LANE. As long as the drivers and fans don't take a stand and stick together it is gonna keep on happening. Now I know people are gonna get on here and say at least we have a place to race, but you guys are the show and without you NO SHOW. I have decide(after never missing a race for years earlier) to go to 1 show a year. The WoO late models! YOU are killing the future of the sport with no VICTORY LANE! The kids have alot of choices on entertainment, more choices than ever. You better get them hooked at a young age. let them meet and take pictures with drivers in VICTORY LANE. It is not fair to the crew, driver, fans and sponsors. Who is gonna know anyones sponsor when everyone leaves before Victory Lane? Who is gonna know how a driver feels after a hotly contested race? Who is even gonna know what the driver looks like or his personality? When are we gonna see a guy win a race and jump on top of the car with fans, crew and driver fired up? That what its all about, it is what got me hooked and many others. I remember (still have picture) of Kenny PJ, Norm Short and myself riding out on the back bumper of my Dads Big Block after a win. Is that what helped push these guys towards giving their whole life to racing? I think all those moments make you love the sport and once it gets in your blood, its over. I remember KP winning and riding the wagon to Victory Lane, man I loved that. Sometimes KP would hand a young fan the trophy or shake their hand. I remember the pride I felt (not that I deserved to) when my favorite would win and the crew would be so fired up. I remember a guy getting out of his car after dreaming of winning at DIS since it was US 13 and seeing tears in his eyes. Now all we have is fewer and fewer cars and fans plus all of the bashshing on the computer. The Warrington and Whaley ladys deserve so much praise going out there and doing the jobs they do. I still don't know how Stacy (small in stature) wheels 800 HP like she does. It seems we never get response to messages like this, just the bashing. These topics are important, because the whole future of racing depends on it. Charlie can sell and ride off into the sunset whenever he chooses and we will be left with nothing and nobody who wants to watch racing, because they don't have the memories and love for the sport.

Well written and much thought in the above post.
Thank you for such a good post, and I wish more would think like you do. Racing and this board particularly would be alot more enjoyable.
Again my hats off to you Rob.

Cathell, he can rush the show so he has time to grade the track for an hour or so. If he has time to grade track an hour then he has time for Victory Lane and to race the laps we paid to see.

I'm with you on this one Rob, due away with the charge lap and back up to the last completed lap and when they go green that lap does not count until they complete it, basically the next time by. NO CHARGE LAP.
As far as the victory circle pictures, that's really no brainier. The pictures should be taken after that particular race. All the kids and sponsors and spectators get a chance to see there"hero" with that checkered flag. Really how many stay to see the picture taking deal anyway after all the races are over. Kids are asleep, MOM's upset because the kids are asleep, kids are pissed the next day because they didn't get their picture taken, and LORD only knows how much memorable moments that are gone and lost forever. Stop and look at how many pictures show up at car shows, the internet, hanging on walls of different businesses, and various other places.
I believe also if I were taking the pictures the sales would be better because #1 of the kids. MOM & POP, grand mother and pop pop all get to see their pride and joy with their hero.
Are you going up to Grandview?

how much would it cost to build a victory lane. a sheet of plywood $20,2 4x4 post $20.00 ,a paint job,or vinyl lettering from vic thomas ,he11 he would probably do it for free for advertisement purpose, and a post hole digger $20.00 and get daryll to dig the holes couple of beers. sounds like about 100 dollars .i pay 12 dollars a week to get in for every race of the year . heck just take my ticket money and do it im sure your accountant can cook the books enough to cover that.

Please do not let the length of the intermission play into this. I will gladly sit an hour for the track grooming if it produces the quality of feature racing that we are getting.
I do, however, have a problem with having Victory Lane between features. You will need time for the winner to go to the scales, for all of their crew and sponsors to come on to the track as well as time for Charlie to get to track level for the interview.
I also fear that those affiliated with the winning car will take their time with their own personal photos and make this a significantly longer affair than it needs to be.
I understand the concern about the children not being able to see all of the interviews, but I am at a time in my life where I believe the children are capable of staying up longer than I can (and they do not have to drive home afterward).

I have questioned many things that Charlie has done over the years but at this point in time I am just very glad that he is keeping dirt racing alive on the eastern shore. It could be that we wouldn't have a regular track without what he is doing!

I think charlie did a good thing this week by letting the modlites run first feature. modlites would put a better show on if we run first or second before the track gets rutted up.

I would like to see the 2 crate classes and the mod lites to alternate the first feature every week and still have the mods and lates 2nd and 3rd, i think the track surface is better when they do it that way, more run it and packed for the higher hp cars

Id be all for that but make the order of events public by say wednesday each week. It would be easier to hit the set up if we knew what kind of track we were running on.

How anyone could say they don't want Victory Lane is beyond me. Do you have to be in bed by 10 or what? I came to see a race, people get fired up, crew get recignition, sponsors be respected and watch/hear a driver in Victory Lane. Anyone that won't spend time for Victory Lane is no race fan. It is selfish and you couldn't love racing, because it is hurting the sport big time. I keep hearing that same old line, "at least we have somewhere to race". Having a place to race has everything to do with kids, fans. drivers and crew having Victory Lane. You get kids hooked. They have a picture on there wall of themselves and there favorite driver on the wall. The kids ask their parents to go to races, not a Shorebirds game or watch NASCAR on TV. You get to know a driver......He becomes a real person when you see and hear him, so you develope a favorite. The sponsors need rec ignition. The Drivers need recognition. The crew needs recognition. It is the so easy to figure this one out. I like Cathell to grade track when it needs it, but it takes 10 laps for track to even start to come in. How would you like to work on a car all week and can't go anywhere for first ten laps and have another five stole from you? You got 5 laps to race on a track thats isn't saturated. If the track is not rough don't cut it.I have seen some of the best racing when track slicks off and has multiple grooves. Let these guys learn how to drive a slick track, because no other track is heavy all night. They slick off and you need to learn to drive a slick track. I write because I care about the sport and I won't be back to Delmar until things change. I went to Grandview Thursday night and spent $40 to get in pits and saw a decent field of LM and a stellar field of BB. I bought 7 Lm Diecast and ate at track. That is over $300 Cathell lost of my money. I used to help sponsor a few cars (not a whole lot of money), but now I spend it elsewhere. I will be at Hagerstown tomorrow night for a $10,000 to win WoO show, but there was a time I wouldn't miss DIS for the world. Look at the stands. Everywhere I go they are packed: Grandview, Hagerstown, Lernersville, East Bay, Big Diamond, Eldora. Why, because they put the fans first. They don't steal laps, they are consistent with there rulings (prime example KP barred for 2 weeks for a crew member grabbing another driver and HJ shakes Mills helmet so hard it bust his lip open and no penalty), they have things for the kids, they have Victory Lane, they bring free pizza up in the stands, they throw T-Shirts in the stands and they have good souvenirs (not the junk Cathell has). Cathell wouldn't know what a decent diecast or driver T-Shirt is and you can't buy a picture of you and your favorite driver. It is all about getting butts in the stands and putting the fans and racers first. Like Cathell says, "if you don't like the rules go home" and I am.

that is the truth, you got to keep the fans happy,i wont be there 8/15 i probably wont be there till the big latemodel show on the 29th. im one of the ones who wouldnt never miss a race, but the last couple of years i have been losing interest in the sport,i have not been pleased with georgetown track conditions but i will go on labor day weekend just because they r having a demolition derby.something besides watching a grader run around for an hour.
