Delaware Dirt Track Association Celebrate First Annual Banquet
Farmington, DE 2/28/09…..The Delaware Dirt Track Association (DDTA) celebrated the First Annual Banquet for the track Saturday night. This track just came together in the latter of the season in 2008 and has intentions to continue to provide a unique away of racing for drivers and fans. Mark and Beth Miller have been in the racing community for a number of years. The Miller’s are currently supporting go-karts, ATV, and flat track motorcycle dirt track racing.
The night began with a great tasty dinner of Chicken Cordon-blue at the Farrington Fire Hall, Farmington, DE. It was the first year, and the turnout was pretty nice amount of supporters of the track. After dinner the awards session began where the racers were acknowledged for their top performances.
Miller began the night by thanking everyone for the support over this first year. Special thank you went to several people Bruce & Cindy thingyerson received a plague for the concession stand, EMT Brian Cobb received a plague, and Brian Keily was given a plague for tending to the track and watering. Other supporters that help this year went to Beth Miller (Millers’ wife), Al Cordeaux, Linda Chunko, Jeff Salevan, Frank Wilson, Pam Chunko, Richard Pearson, Mike Bullis, Bobby Watkins, Chris Neibert, Frank & Carol Hrupsa, Bill Finkbiner, FS Growmark, Roy Miller, Bruce & Susan Wall of Action Enterprises.
Miller then turned the mic over to MC of the night Fred Johnson. Johnson began to call up the champions to receive a nice trophy. First through third positions were acknowledged for most division being top in points.
Ten year old Richard Carey, Milton, DE says he has been racing about a year in a half and races at several different tracks in a season. Carey was the 2008 Junior I Rookie Champion and second place in the Junior Outlaw. Cary said he also had two wins at Club Milton during the 2008 season. To include the DMP & regular series where again Carey received some type of an award. Carey says he loves to race. If his stats stay this good in the new season and further along his career, he just might be a force to reckon with.
Tyler Kidwill, sixteen year old of Port Deposit, MD received several awards for flat track cycle racing. Kidwell races several circuits in aligning states as well DDTA. Kidwell said he has been racing about eleven years now. Kidwell took the 450A Cycle championship and third in Sport A class. Kidwell was among the top three drivers overall track champion this year. Kidwell wanted to give a special thank you to Bruce & Barb thingyerson, Mark Miller, and Valerie his mother.
The other two track overall champions in points went to Mitch Morton for karts and Rick Short in the ATV351-Open class. Those three guys were the top champions of the track and also awarded another trophy in the divisions they raced.
Another winner Billy Boram, took home two track championships for ATV90, and 70S Single and third place finish in the Veterans division. Boram has been racing since 1973 and collected a few other championships and wins.
